Intern Stabilizes 150 Year Old Patient

Posted on Sep 3, 2014 by in The OFI Blog |

Katie Boodle, a Preservation Services intern with Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL), recently wrote about her experience working on Civil War era New York City business directories. Her six-week project was stabilizing these books for digitization on the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Library.

Unsurprisingly, these 150 year old volumes needed some care. Katie learned how to unbind and resewed these books so they could be immortalized for everyone to see on the internet, to read more about this intensive process, check out the Smithsonian Libraries Unbounded blog here.
