Monica, Carlos, and Corals

Carlos Prada (STRI) collects coral samples.

Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) post doctoral fellow Carlos Prada, and STRI research associate Monica Medina, have discovered a group of corals that survived the Caribbean coral extinction that occurred between one and two million years ago.  Their research detected that the species survived due to their high genetic diversity.
