PROJECT TITLE: Volunteer Coordination Internship

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Work alongside volunteer program staff to learn about operating a large scale volunteer program. Understand the needs of the Museum in volunteer staffing and the motivational needs of volunteers to want to volunteer at the Museum. Learn daily operations and focus on specialized projects relating to evaluating the program through the eyes of the volunteer and creating position descriptions to give volunteers further support.

PREREQUISITES: Enrolled in a university or college, majoring in Education or a natural history related science. Available on weekends.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: To understand how to manage a large program of people conducting research and outreach in a Museum, to learn how to engage volunteers and their motivations throughout the volunteer life-cycle (recruitment, retention, exiting) and to create materials for use in a program that help improve program operations.
