USC Returns for le Tour de Smithsonian

Posted on May 24, 2018 by in The OFI Blog |

Last spring the University of South Carolina’s (USC) Honors College formed a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and sent five students on a three-week externship to explore the different institutions within the Smithsonian. The partnership provided an opportunity for the students to explore the way people interact with exhibits and collections preserved within museums.

Between Thursday 5/10/2018 to Wednesday 5/30/2018, the second cohort of USC students will be participating on “behind the scenes” tours of the Smithsonian Institute with directors, curators, scientists, and educators. The seven students selected for the spring 2018 iteration of the program are Benjamin Spencer, Catherine Garcia, Jake Flanagan, John M. Gabel, Kevin M. Gagnon, Pranathi Meda, and Tavashia Berry. The group has toured 13 different units within the Smithsonian: the Anacostia Community Museum (ACM), the Freer | Sackler Galleries (FSGA), the Museum Conservation Institute (MCI), the National Air and Space Museum (NASM), the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), the National Museum of African Art (NMAfA), the National Museum of American History (NMAH), the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), the National Postal Museum (NPM), the Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI), and the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM).
