Smithsonian Fellow Dr. Stephen Godfrey has been selected to lead the curation of the newly announced Calvert Marine Museum: Home of the State Paleontology Collections and Research Center. In 1970, The Calvert Marine Museum opened its doors with the mission of collecting, preserving, and interpreting Maryland fossils found along the Calvert Cliffs. Nearly 50 years after its opening, the museum is set to become the home of the State of Maryland’s Paleontology Collections under the direction of Smithsonian Fellow Dr. Stephen Godfrey. Dr. Godfrey will be in charge of curating more than 100,000 fossils and skeletons from across the state of Maryland.
