Dingoes: Cracking the Code

Posted on Oct 4, 2018 by in The OFI Blog |

As the dingoes of Australia interbreed with domestic dogs, less genetically pure dingoes remain in the wild.

Supported by the Smithsonian-Queensland Fellowship Program, Smithsonian Fellow Dr. Subashchandran Sankarasubramanian will sequence the entire genome of a 350 year old dingo. He will use the sequence data to identify genetically pure dingoes, specifically those that are not the result of interbreeding with domestic dogs.

Mirage News recently posted an article about Dr. Sankarasubramanian and his effort to preserve dingo diversity, which you can read here.
