National Zoological Park (NZP) Research Associate Dr. Hongbo Yang and a team of scientists recently studied what makes protected forest areas most effective at preventing deforestation. There has been an effort to create more protected areas because studies have shown that, without protected areas, deforestation increases. The team was able to demonstrate that protected areas near cities do the best job at slowing down deforestation.
