Interns and fellows from across the Smithsonian recently gathered for lunch at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) on Monday 11/28/16. On Thursday 11/17/16 a group of interns and fellows from across the Smithsonian had an opportunity to go on a special tour of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). Smithsonian interns and fellows gathered at the National Museum of American History (NMAH) on Thursday 7/21/2016 for an event in the Morning in the Museum series. Participants had the awesome opportunity to explore original comics and authentic superhero memorabilia as well as hear from Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, creator of La Borinqueña. On Tuesday, 7/12/2016 interns and fellows explored the Smithsonian Institution (SI) museums in the annual summer intern and fellow scavenger hunt! The Smithsonian Fellow and Intern Morning at the Museum Series continued on Thursday, 7/14/2016 when interns and fellows participated in an early visit to the National Postal Museum (NPM). Participants had an exclusive tour and completed a scavenger hunt throughout the galleries. Thanks for the great experience NPM!read more
As an intern at the Smithsonian, you get the opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore galleries like never before! At the Morning in the Museum event on 7/7/16, interns were given a tour of the main galleries of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG) and got the chance to peek into collections storage. Only a small portion of the works the Hirshhorn Museum owns are able to go up on display, and the intern tour got the inside look at the thousands of art pieces waiting to go out for public viewing. On the morning of Thursday 6/23/16, interns and fellows gathered at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) before the museum opened to the public. SAAM docents guided participants through the galleries on tours specifically tailored to the young professionals. Interns and fellows were also given the opportunity to explore the Luce Foundation Center visible storage area and the Lunder Conservation Center. Being an intern at the Smithsonian has a ton of perks. As an intern, you get the opportunity to see and interact with exhibits and museums like never before! Recently, through the weekly Morning in the Museum events held for interns, interns were able to explore the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) before its doors opened to the public. On Thursday 6/9/16, Smithsonian Institution interns and fellows were given a behind the scenes tour of the libraries housed within the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). Visitors toured different sections of the library, networked with other interns, fellows, and staff members, and learned how to use the library resources and database.
